Singer Patty Andrews, the last surviving member of The Andrews Sisters, passed away yesterday at the age of 94 at her home in Northridge, California. Patty was lead singer in the group. She and her sisters entertained U.S. service personnel overseas during World War II. Patty actually announced the war’s end in 1945 to troops at a concert in Italy.
The girl’s style influenced dozens of subsequent singers, from the McGuire Sisters and the Pointer Sisters to En Vogue, Bette Midler and even Christina Aguilera.
Sad day in music news. May she rest in peace.
