I hope you’re getting used to 3D, because it sounds like it’s time is drawing to a close (not that that will reduce ticket sales to see Robert Downey Jr flying at you as the Iron Man in a couple of weeks). ‘Iron Man 3‘ will be the first movie shown in 4DX in Japan when it opens there. What in the world is 4DX, you ask? Here’s the Hollywood Reporter’s description of it:
“Fourth dimension” effects utilized by the system include strobe lights and equipment in the ceiling that can drop bubbles down upon the audience…
Wowza! So why ‘Iron Man 3’? A spokesperson for Korona World Chain, the theater in Japan that offers these effects, explained:
“It was really a matter of timing that Iron Man became the first title for 4DX in Japan, though we were looking for a blockbuster action film, as that is what works best with the system.”
Apparently, this is a first for this theater. 4DX has actually been available in China, South Korea, Thailand, Russia, Mexico, Israel and several countries in South America for the past few years. Apparently ‘Avatar’ was shown in 4DX format there! The United States theaters need to get with the program already. I can’t WAIT to see a movie like this.
