DARREN CRISS
The Actor Talks About Playing Gay On TV

Danielle Levitt/AUGUST

Darren Criss is Cosmopolitan Magazine’s ‘Cosmo Guy‘ in their October issue so of course the topic of the mood on the set of Glee came up in the interview.  The actor is candid on how things are going on set, what it’s like to play a gay character and lesson’s he’s learned from former girlfriends.  Here’s a look at his interview;

What’s the mood at McKinley High? “As I said on Conan, we’re picking up the pieces. Cory loved life and wanted his friends to be happy, so it’s only right that we try and start to smile again. That’s something that he would have wanted. I am just so happy that he got to touch as many lives as he did while we were all lucky enough to have him.”

You’re not gay; you just play gay on TV. Do you ever feel the need to assert your heterosexuality? “No. I know who I am. I feel bad for guys who have to flex their muscles. But hey, if that’s the way to make yourself feel comfortable as a man – as long as it isn’t antagonizing anybody – go for it. I’m okay with your getting a Miata to feel like a dude; just don’t be a dick about it.”

Have you ever had an encounter with a Gleek gone wild? “A guy licked my face – straight up grabbed my head and licked my face.”

What’s the best lesson you’ve learned from an ex-girlfriend? “When I was a junior in college, I’d broken up with a girl, but there were those residual months when I was still calling her all the time and wanting to spend time with her. Basically, she sat me down and said, ‘Listen, you broke my heart. Accept responsibility for your actions, be a man, and leave me alone, because it’s only going to make things worse.’ I’ll always remember that as a pivotal moment in my life. I hope she’s reading this because I love her for it.”

The October issue of Cosmpolitan hits newsstands on September 10th.
