In addition to her shoot, Lena sat down to dish on all things… well, Lena! She spoke about her relationship with her boyfriend (fun. bandmember Jack Antonoff) and her fave beauty routine (spoiler alert – it’s al about being natural!).
When she dished about her show, Girls, here’s what she had to say about her artistic decisions:
I want you to feel like you are getting lost with these characters. So I write long scenes. TV feels the least like life when it’s like two seconds here, then ‘meanwhile at this person’s house.’ I wanted to make a show that wasn’t as bright as other shows….I’ve always been incredibly attracted to pictures of my parents [the artists Laurie Simmons and Carroll Dunham] in the 1970s. That aged photograph palette seems to give an importance to their twenties. So I was like, I’d like to make something that shows my twenties through that beautiful soft-focus lens. Also, I get very fetishistic when I’m shooting the girls—especially Jemima.
