Superheroes Are Taking Over Summer 2016

The summer of 2016 is shaping up to be a huge one for movie studios. Both Warner Brothers and Disney (in conjunction with Marvel and DC) have announced some major superhero flicks for that summer!

The logistics of it all are a bit hard to follow, but just know that the two powerhouse movie studios are going to be taking massive swings at each other to try to claim the top spot all summer long.

It was initially announced that May 6, 2016 would be the release date for an “untitled” Marvel flick. Shortly thereafter Warner Brothers announced that Man of Steel 2 would also be released on May 6, 2016, rather than the initially planned date of July 17, 2015. Once that swap was made, Marvel and Disney announced that they would be releasing Ant Man on July 17, 2015 – taking Warner Brother’s release date from them.

Then, last month, it was announced that that “untitled Marvel flick” would actually be Captain America 3. In response to that mega announcement, Warner Brothers then announced that they would be releasing a Guy Ritchie film about King Arthur to go head to head with Captain America 3, with a release date of July 22, 2016.

Lost? Here’s the run down:

  • July 17, 2015: Ant Man (Disney/Marvel)
  • May 6, 2016: Captain America 3 (Disney/Marvel) and Man of Steel 2 (Warner Brothers)
  • July 22, 2016: Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur film (Warner Brothers)

So basically, May 6, 2016 is going to be a ridiculously dominant day at the theaters, and I – for one – can’t wait!
