Last week TLC announced their decision to cancel ’19 Kids and Counting’ following the disclosure that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggars’s oldest son, Josh Duggar, had sexually molested several girls, including some of his sisters, when he was a teenager. The Duggars released a statement after TLC announced the cancellation, but a source said the parents are “heartbroken” over the network’s decision.
The source explained:
[The family is] heartbroken that they’ve now lost that platform. The Duggars want to return to TV because they truly believe it was part of God’s plan for them to spread the word about their faith.
“I think Jim Bob and Michelle honestly did expect people to just move on from this. Their thinking is, they put this behind them ages ago, so why wouldn’t the rest of the world?”
Hmmm… Maybe because the rest of the world realizes how serious Josh’s actions were and is perhaps a bit skeptical about the “treatment” they sent Josh to, which they appeared to have misrepresented to the police during the criminal investigation?
Here’s my question about the Duggars’ way of thinking: if it was God’s plan for them to be on TV, maybe it was God’s plan for them to now be off TV? I mean, if everything that occurs is God’s plan, then shouldn’t they accept what’s now happening as part of His plan too? Just a thought.
Perhaps some evangelical producers will pick them up in some way. Something tells me this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the Duggars, although I’m not sure how well they’ll be received by a mainstream audience at this point, which is probably TLC’s thinking, too. ’19 Kids and Counting’ was one of their big shows: there’s a reason it took them a while to make the decision, while they cancelled ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,’ which was suffering declining ratings, within days of us finding out Mama June was allegedly dating the man convicted of sexually molesting her oldest daughter.
