Angelina Jolie has lined up her next project, and, just like with ‘Maleficent,’ she’s making it a family affair! This time she will work with her oldest son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt. She will direct, produce, and co-write an adaptation of Cambodian author Loung Ung’s memoir ‘First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers.’
Angelina said this about her new project:
I was deeply affected by Loung’s book. It deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland.”
Maddox was born in Cambodia. His role in the production is unclear, so we don’t know if he’ll be acting on-screen or involved in some capacity behind the camera.
Angelina also had this to say about the project:
It is a dream come true to be able to adapt this book for the screen, and I’m honored to work alongside Loung and filmmaker Rithy Panh.”
The film will be made in Khmer as well as English. Angelina definitely goes for the intense movies: this one is no exception. Should be amazing and thought-provoking! Netflix is really ramping up production on original content, too. I’m watching it more and more often these days. I’m sure this will be another Netflix original that I’ll check out.
