Pam Sommers, the Executive Director of Publicity at Rizzoli, released a statement.
The Bookscan number of 30K floating around is not inaccurate but it represents a very small segment of our sales overall, which are very strong in non-bookstore specialty retailers, and international sales, neither of which report to Bookscan.
“The book is, in fact, a significant success story as a benchmark of the phenomenon of self-portrait in the digital age.”
As a matter of fact, Pam says that demand was high enough for them to switch from an Asian printer to a US one, so the book could be delivered to bookstores faster.
‘Selfish’ did hit the USA Today Bestseller List. It spent two weeks there, with the highest ranking at #32, so that’s definitely something. Turns out people ARE willing to buy what they can also get for free :).
