What people expect of an actor is totally ridiculous. It’s unfair that an artist is expected to speak really well in public and have skin tough enough to withstand sometimes really hurtful criticism, but also, in order to do the job, be really sensitive and in touch with their feelings.”
You know, I can see her point. It’s not easy, especially when you add in all the scrutiny that actors have to endure.
Kirsten’s no stranger to Hollywood: she’s been acting since she was a child. She was what: five or six when she starred in ‘Interview with a Vampire’ along with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt? She said she’s learned to cope with all of the expectations by staying true to her personality.
So all you can do is be yourself – just be who the h*ll you are.”
Kristen goes a bit against the grain, however, by saying that Hollywood is actually becoming more friendly to women these days. She said she felt like she was in an all-boys club while starring in the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise in 2002 and 2004, but things are different now.
But the older I get, the less I feel that way. What I’ve found is that the cool guys now want to hang out with the cool girls.”
I hope that’s true! Kirsten also opened up a little bit about her boyfriend, Garrett Hedlund.
We’ve been together for three and a half years, so, yes, it’s going really well. We’re the same age. We have similar backgrounds. He feels like family to me.”
They sound compatible! I’m glad to hear Kirsten’s doing well these days. Professionally, she’s starring in FX’s ‘Fargo.’ Do you think too much is expected of actors today? I do think the whole idea that they’re supposed to be role models is misguided.
