Earlier today it was announced that NFL Hall of Famer and former sports broadcaster Frank Gifford died of natural causes this morning at his Connecticut home. Kathie Lee Gifford, who co-hosts the fourth hour of the ‘Today’ show with Hoda Kotb, spoke out after the outpouring of support.
The Giffords released a statement announcing Frank’s passing.
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank Gifford. Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home.
“We rejoice in the extraordinary life he was privileged to live, and we feel grateful and blessed to have been loved by such an amazing human being. We ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time and we thank you for your prayers.”
Frank is survived by Kathie, their two children (Cassidy and Cody), as well as three children (Jeff, Kyle, and Victoria) from a previous marriage.
Kathie tweeted this afternoon:
Deeply grateful to all 4 ur outpouring of grace. We r steadfast in our faith & finding comfort in knowing where Frank is. Phillippians 4:13.

Frank had a distinguished career in the NFL, playing both offensive and defensive positions before players began to specialize, in the 1950’s and 1960’s. And who can forget Kathie talking about her “lamp chop” and “human love machine” on ‘Live with Regis and Kathie Lee!’ back in the 1990s? Our thoughts are with the Giffords. May Frank RIP.
