Sandra Lee recently announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy and was at home recovering last week when she had to return to the hospital due to complications. Sandra gave an update on Facebook yesterday, explaining that she was going back into surgery.
Andrew and I have decided that tomorrow I will go back into surgery. I did my very best to avoid this (when I tell you I did everything, I mean everything — modern, Eastern and holistic) but infection is an incredible monster. I am a long way from where I was and a long way from where I need to be, but at this point I understand that right now I just need to complete this unexpected phase of a tough journey.
Although this is not a game — and not to diminish or disrespect this process– I think about it like a tennis match, as tennis is my favorite sport.
Right now the ball is in my court and it’s time for a mean backhand- and I am taking that shot (And just so you know I DO, in fact, have one mean backhand on the tennis court! It’s actually stronger than my forehand – solid, swift and accurate). So my plan for tomorrow is game, set, match!
And to be absolutely clear what I am going through is nothing compared to what many of my sisters experience – to them and their families and support systems I say: Stay strong, focus on the light and I send you my love.
When I am done I WILL be lending you my backhand.
I’m so sorry to hear this; infection is tough to fight.
It sounds like Sandra has a great attitude, however. She’s going to beat this! We’ll all be thinking about Sandra when she goes back into surgery today; hopefully it will be successful, and she’ll be back home and recovering soon.
