Last week it was announced that ‘The View’ was losing another co-host: conservative commentator Nicolle Wallace was leaving the show. She’s bouncing back, though: she just signed a contract with the Fox show ‘Morning Joe’ to be a contributor. She sat down with Variety to talk about her time at ‘The View.’
Here’s Nicolle posing with one of the show’s recent guests, D.L. Hughley:
It turns out ABC execs didn’t even personally inform her- or her agent- that she was being fired. She found out when it was announced in the press! When asked if she was given any indication that they were unhappy from her performance, Nicolle said:
I had never had one note from anybody inside the entire organization during the entire season. No one said a word to me. Maybe I should have seen it coming. Not after a single show, a single Hot Topic or a single interview. It was like being invisible. But not in an unpleasant way.
After announcing to the media that Nicolle was leaving the show, execs did contact her agent and offer her a contributor role as well as a spot on ABC news as a contributor and to cover debates and such. Nicolle said:
I [thought about their offer]. They asked me to be on “The View” for one day a week. I felt like if it had been two days a week or enough time to have more of a presence, I’d consider it. They weren’t interested in negotiating with me. It didn’t make sense for me.
Nicolle had this to say about what her season on ‘The View’ was like:
For me, I was sort of like Forrest Gump. I was standing there and all this crazy stuff was happening, but I didn’t know anything different. I loved it all. Was it difficult? It was my first foray into that world. I was on the Sarah Palin campaign, so I’d certainly seen extraordinary and dramatic things take place before. There were some extraordinary and dramatic moments during the Rosie O’Donnell part of the season. I don’t think she felt it was what she signed up for, so there was some exasperation.
Apparently the concern with Nicolle was that she didn’t debate enough with her co-hosts. I think it’s a tough position to be in, and it’s certainly not for everyone! It’s too bad the executives didn’t at least have the courtesy to inform her before announcing it to the media, however. I’m glad she lined something else up right away with ‘Morning Joe.’
