Viola Davis is experiencing some great times, career-wise, as the star of ABC’s hit show, ‘How To Get Away With Murder.’ She’s been nominated for an Emmy for her performance. She’s also starring in ‘Suicide Squad,’ so we’ll see her on the big screen, too, next year! Viola said her career success is great for the way it’s opening people’s eyes to the roles African American women can play.
She talked about what her four-year-old daughter, Genesis, says about fairy tales.
She says, ‘Make the princess me. Let it be me.’ That’s what happens when you’re young. Then something happens where you realize, ‘They don’t see me that way.’
“I want to be in the story. I think I deserve to be in that story, and I believe my story deserves to be told.”
YES. I’m all for that, Viola!
Viola said that her role as Annalise Keating on ‘HTGAWN’ makes that possible, calling it a “stepping stone in taking people out of their comfort zone” in terms of how people see African American women, describing her character as a “hypsersexual antiheroine.”
She’s not a cartoon cutout. She’s a mess and she’s nothing that someone who looks like me has played before. I think, win or lose [at the Emmys], that’s a step in the right direction.”
Annalise Keating does NOT lack for any dramatic potential, that’s for sure! Can Not Wait for the next season of ‘HTGAWM.’ How about you?
