Oh no! Shannon Doherty is in the fight of her life: she’s battling breast cancer. It was revealed in a lawsuit against her former business manager, who she says is partly to blame for her health problems.
Shannon said in a statement:
Yes, I have breast cancer, and I am currently undergoing treatment. I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life. I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.”
Well, it sounds like she’s mentally prepared for her fight. Go Brenda!
Shannon was forced to reveal her illness once legal papers from her lawsuit against her business manager became public. She sued the management firm Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson for allegedly not paying her health insurance invoice in 2014, although they were supposed to manage her bills in return for 5% of her earnings.
Because her invoice was unpaid, Shannon lost her health insurance coverage for 2014. She wasn’t able to get her insurance reinstated until 2015. When she went to a doctor, that’s when she was diagnosed with “invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node.” OMG.
Shannon said her doctor told her that her cancer likely spread in 2014, which will require her to take more extensive medical measures, such as a mastectomy and chemotherapy, that she might have been able to avoid if she had had health insurance and been diagnosed in 2014. A rep for the firm said they will “aggressively defend” themselves against Shannon’s lawsuit in court.
Tanner Mainstain is saddened to learn that Ms. Doherty is suffering from cancer and wishes her a full recovery. However, the claim that Tanner Mainstain caused her to be uninsured, prevented her from seeking medical care, or somehow contributed to her cancer is patently false.”
If what Shannon alleges is true, then I don’t blame her for being upset! This is why I’m such a control freak and keep an eye on all my bills: ultimately, I’m the one who has to deal with the consequences of an unpaid bill, so I’m the one is most invested in getting it paid. I hope Shannon’s breast cancer treatment is successful.
