Last night Taylor Swift gave an emotional performance in Glendale, Arizona. She publicly performed her song ‘Ronan’ for the second time ever for a woman in the audience whose son died of cancer. The first time was during a Stand Up To Cancer marathon in September 2012. The song was inspired by a mother’s love for her son who died of cancer.
Taylor said before the song:
There’s a woman here tonight named Maya Thompson. I wouldn’t know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if she hadn’t shared her story about her son Ronan.”
Maya Thompson posted a clip from Instagram:
I still can’t believe tonight. I still can’t believe you did this. This will forever be one of the most special moments of my life. Thank you @taylorswift for your beautiful heart and for never forgetting my Ro. I love you to the moon and back. #ronan #fucancer #secretsong #1989 #allhailqueentaylor #myhero #swiftieforlife #rockstarronan @ronanfoundation
How incredible that must’ve been for Maya! Taylor talked about reading Maya’s blog and acknowledged that cancer has hit very close to home for her recently.
I would read [the blog] every night. And in it was this account of what it was like to watch cancer take over [your] life. And since then, I’ve had cancer hit really close to me in my family.”
Taylor’s mother was diagnosed with cancer last spring. Hopefully her treatment is going well.
