Three months ago the Duggars got to experience the dark side of fame when it came out that Josh Duggar had sexually molested several girls as a teenager, including four sisters, and his parents, Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar, were accused of helping him avoid criminal prosecution afterwards. Despite two of his victims, Jill and Jessa Duggar, coming forward to defend him as well as his parents, TLC ultimately ended up canceling their highest rated show, ’19 Kids and Counting,’ in the aftermath of the backlash. Sources say they still can’t believe how all of this went down.
A source who works closely with them said:
They are still stunned that this is how it has all gone down. I think they are still trying to absorb the fact that their life has so radically changed.
“The better part of the last decade has been doing their show, and to have that removed – and instead for there to be this intense scrutiny of their every move – just isn’t something you get used to overnight.”
I guess I can see where such a sudden change after this public bombshell would leave them feeling a bit, well, shell-shocked.
Jim Bob and Michelle, who still view Josh’s actions as a “mistake,” reportedly thought that the public would understand.
[They] truly felt people would understand and eventually be okay with it.”
The Duggars continue to stand behind Josh, according to the source.
[N]one of the Duggars think Josh is to blame.”
Instead, they are angry at the officials who released the records once reporters filed requests to receive copies under the Freedom of Information Act.
Josh has been force to distance himself from the family and limit his exposure on social media feeds since news of his previous actions got out.
Jim Bob and Michelle love their son, and they love when they can spend time with his family. But every time they’re photographed with him, a story gets made out of it that rehashes the whole mess – and it’s painful for everyone.”
Well, what’s clear to me is that the Duggars Just Don’t Get It. They don’t get how serious sexual abuse is. I wonder if the public would have responded the same way if Jim Bob and Michelle had sent Josh to a qualified professional for treatment and not helped him evade criminal prosecution, as they’re alleged to have done?
