It looks like Will Smith is throwing his hat back in the ring for some acting nominations! He has a new movie that will hit theaters on December 25 called ‘Concussion.’ Will plays forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu, the physician who discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). That’s the disease that has afflicted a number of NFL players after sustaining so many hits to the head while playing football.
Dr. Omalu discovered CTE by studying the deaths of several NFL players. As you can imagine, the NFL wasn’t exactly eager to embrace his findings. As one character tells him in the trailer:
You’re going to war with a corporation that owns a day of the week.”
‘Concussion’ looks like it’s going to be INTENSE. It’s an important story, however. The idea that these athletes are sustaining life-threatening head injuries while playing a sport for entertainment is something that deserves to be known, especially when you consider the number of players who make millions while playing only to go bankrupt later on.
We’re going to be seeing a lot of Will in the theaters, between ‘Concussion’ and next summer’s highly anticipated ‘Suicide Squad.’ Here’s the trailer for ‘Concussion.’ Will really seems to become this character, doesn’t he?
