Did you hear about Caitlyn Jenner’s appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’? Ellen DeGeneres asked Caitlyn about her stance on gay marriage. Caitlyn, who’s proving to be pretty conservative, admitted she had not supported gay marriage in the past but said she “never wanted to stand in the way of anyone’s happiness.” Yet Caitlyn still seemed, well, lukewarm in her support of gay marriage. Ellen called her out on it when she went on Howard Stern’s radio show.
Ellen told Howard:
She still has a judgment about gay marriage. I said, ‘you’re wanting people to understand and accept you…and you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage…'”
Ellen, who is married to Portia De Rossi, pointed out that while she doesn’t necessarily understand the urge to change genders, she still supported Caitlyn and “want(s) her to be happy” even if her choices are different from Ellen’s.
I have to admit, I think Ellen has a great point. I was also surprised when I saw in a recap of the latest ‘I Am Cait’ episode that Caitlyn wants to keep her golf club membership as “Bruce,” saying:
My membership is under Bruce… I’ll worry about the locker rooms later on down the line. What are they going to do with my locker? Is it going upstairs to the ladies’ locker room?”
Shouldn’t it go upstairs to the ladies’ locker room, since she’s a woman? Caitlyn has gone to all this trouble to be acknowledged as a woman but want to stick with her male “persona” when it suits her? Seriously? You can’t have it both ways!
