The last few years have been pretty amazing for Jennifer Lawrence. She starred in the mega-franchise ‘The Hunger Games,’ won two Oscars, had her nude pics stolen and posted online, and became a household name. So how’s she doing as she prepares to say good-bye to the role that changed her life, Katniss Everdeen, as ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2’ is about to hit the big screen?
Jennifer talked about what it was like to be “discovered” in Hollywood.
I picture myself drowning. Outwardly, I look like I’m having a blast, and I am, at least on some levels. There I was- burp, burp, burp- just a little gal from Kentucky getting discovered by big ol’ Hollywood. But inside I’m terrified. In an instant- boom- everyone’s listening, everyone’s watching.”
Yeah, that would be a lot to handle!
When asked how she’s changed, Jennifer said:
You want to know how I’ve changed? I’m so scared to say anything now. I can see every negative way that people can take it, and I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining. ‘Oh, she’s so conceited now. She’s so jaded now.’ It probably comes from Googling myself. If it were up to me, I would not talk. I would just act.”
When the interviewer asked her about Googling herself and to promise never, ever to do that again, Jennifer replied:
You try being 22, having a period and staying away from Google. I once Googled ‘Jennifer Lawrence Ugly.’ [Laughs] Do I sound b**chy?”
She admitted that, although she shouldn’t care what people think, she does.
I can’t think of a more wasteful use of my time than to worry about this. Why do I care what people think? But I do. I just can’t pretend I don’t care. I get really insecure about it. The world makes an opinion of you without ever meeting you. That worry shouldn’t bother me, but it does. It does worry me.
“I’m going to leave here and think, Oh God, why couldn’t I just have been cool and confident?”
And that is why we love Jennifer so much: she’s so honest and endearing! You can read her entire interview, including her explanation for her birthday with Kris Jenner, on The New York Times website.
