Patrick Dempsey is moving from the small screen to the big screen! He’s landed his first post-‘Grey’s Anatomy’ gig. He’ll star in the movie ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’ along with Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, including which role Dempsey will be playing — though, as the title suggests, Bridget does find herself unexpectedly expecting. Less clear at this stage is if and when the father’s identity will be revealed, leaving open the possibility that Dempsey — TV’s own (former) Doctor McDreamy — could play a love rival in a similar vein to Hugh Grant’s dashing Daniel Cleaver. Grant is not returning for this, though director Sharon Maguire — who helmed the original Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001 — will be at the helm again.
Now this should be interesting! It’s speculated that this new movie is based on ‘Bridget Jones’ columns that Helen Fielding wrote rather than her latest ‘Bridget Jones’ book, ‘Mad About The Boy.’
I haven’t had a chance to read ‘Mad About The Boy,’ but I have to say, I’m not in a hurry: no one seemed to have anything good to say about ‘Mad About The Boy’! I did think the movies (and the earlier books) were funny, however, so I’m keeping an eye out for the trailers for this one. Are you interested?
