Last night Viola Davis made history as the first African American woman to win for Lead Actress in a Drama at the 2015 Emmy Awards. Viola won for her starring role in Shonda Rhimes’s show, ‘How To Get Away With Murder.’ Watch her emotional speech after the break.
Viola has been open about the struggles that women of color face in Hollywood and the need for more diversity on the screen. She’s now paving the path to help make that possible. Her acting in ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ is absolutely amazing; she earned this Emmy.
And now, her career is on fire. We’ll see her on the big screen in one of the big blockbuster movies of summer 2016: ‘The Suicide Squad.’
You don’t have to wait that long to see Viola again, however. The new season of ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ starts later this month. Check out her emotional acceptance speech; it gives me chills. She didn’t just win the Emmy: she won the night with this speech. Hopefully it served as a powerful wake-up call to Hollywood. Congratulations, Viola!
