Demi Lovato has been open about her mental health struggles, which included eating disorders, and the challenges she’s experienced feeling comfortable with her body. She decided to “put her money where her mouth is” for her latest Vanity Fair photo shoot: she posed nude, without makeup, and with no retouching.
Demi explained why she chose to do this revealing photo shoot. She was partially inspired by the recent death of her great-grandfather.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past day, it’s that life is too short. I’m about to launch an album [named ‘Confident’] that finally represents who I truly am. How do I embrace this new chapter in my life? How do I really walk the walk? What does it mean to be confident? It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don’t give a f—, and this is who I am.
“I want to show the side of me that’s real, that’s liberated, that’s free. What if we do a photo shoot where it’s totally raw? Super-sexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching, and no clothing. Let’s do it here, let’s do it now.”
She’s living up to the name of her new album, ‘Confident’!
Given her issues with eating disorders, Demi admitted she wouldn’t have expected to ever do this.
I would have never though that I would have ever gotten to a place in my life where I could feel comfortable [posing nude]. It’s empowering, and it shows other women that you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body-image issues, and you can feel comfortable and confident in your skin.”
It’s great that Demi has gotten to a place where she feels comfortable doing something so reveal. Good for her! I think it has to be noted, however, that Demi has every reason to be confident doing this: she has a GORGEOUS face and body. Check out the video below, where Demi explains her reasoning for her Vanity Fair photo shoot in more depth.
