Say what you will about Nicole Kidman, who’s experienced a life of ups and downs in the public eye over the past couple of decades, between her marriage and divorce from Tom Cruise and then her second marriage with Keith Urban, but no one can deny that she’s one of the most talented actresses in Hollywood. She opened up about her acting process.
Nicole comes from a non-Hollywood family, so she admits her parents weren’t always supportive of her acting ambitions.
It was completely self-motivated. My father was a biochemist and my mom was a nurse educator, and they were like, ‘Who is this black sheep of the family?’
“At that age, I was seeking it out. And I was looking for kindred spirits.”
It’s a good thing she was persistent: Nicole is a great actress!
She opened up about her acting process.
We’re taught to bring everything—the state of being, the environment—and use it. If it’s raining, or the other actor doesn’t know his lines, everything has to be used. So your own emotional state comes into play, and I certainly remember that happening a lot on, say, The Hours, when I was going through an enormous amount of turmoil. And even though it was appropriate at times for the character [Virginia Wolf], at other times it wasn’t. But I would just bleed into it; it would manifest in different ways.”
Nicole did amazing work in ‘The Hours,’ so obviously it worked! She will next be seen in the thriller ‘Secret in Their Eyes’ with Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor. ‘Secret in Their Eyes’ will hit theaters on November 20th, just in time for the holidays!
