Remember when Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj got into it on twitter over the MTV VMA nominations? Nicki said that the show seemed to “celebrate women with very slim bodies.” Taylor, who’d been nominated for her ‘Blank Spaces’ video, took offense: in part because she seemed to think the comment was directed at her rather than a social commentary on the MTV VMAs. The two were able to make amends- after a lot of headlines- and Taylor now says she’s learned her lesson.
Taylor shared her new strategy for handling situations like that.
I don’t want to talk about it. But I send text messages now. If there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding, I go to someone’s management, I get their number and I text them.”
She added this about the hazards of social media:
It’s an important lesson for anyone to learn in 2015.”
I think it’s a wise strategy for Taylor to adopt: so many things can be misunderstood, especially in 140 character tweets, and things blow up incredibly fast online. Molehills grow into mountains very quickly on the internet! Taylor’s learning how to manager her superstardom well :).
