If The View was looking for media buzz when they hired on Raven-Symone, she is delivering! The actress turned View panelist is causing a stir over some controversial comments she made on the show this week.
Yesterday The View panelists discussed a study that claims Americans often make racist assumptions based solely on someone’s name. They then aired a YouTube video (that was actually posted way back in 2009 but has now gone viral) that demonstrates 60 of the most “ghetto” names. Raven basically agreed that she is discriminatory when it comes to names and wouldn’t hire someone with a name like shown in the video.
She shared with audience, “Just to bring it back, can we take back ‘racist’ and say ‘discriminatory,’ because I think that’s a better word. And I’m very discriminatory against words like the ones they were saying in those names. I’m not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. It’s just not going to happen. I’m not going to hire you.”
Twitter backlash erupted when viewers heard her comments. Just a small sample of the irritation over her words:
Can we petition to get Raven off the view… I’m tired of hearing her speak.

Raven Symone is against hiring people with “Africanized” names. What the hell do we expect from someone from “every continent in Africa”?

What do you think of Raven’s comments? It’s not exactly someone’s choice what their parents named them, right? I mean, there’s always changing it when you’re an adult, but still…
