Kate Winslet has spoken out in the past against all the photoshopping that occurs with print photography and feels so strongly about it that she has it in her Lancome-L’Oreal contract that her ads will not be retouched. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is! The actress explained why she feels so strongly about this issue.
I can only ever speak for myself and I can only ever do things that are important to me and it’s a hope that other people might follow suit but it does feel important to me because I do think we have a responsibility to the younger generation of women,” the star told us when asked if she thinks other women will follow suit.
“I think they do look to magazines, I think they do look to women who have been successful in their chosen careers and they want people to look up to, and I would always want to be telling the truth about who I am to that generation because they’ve got to have strong leaders. We’re all responsible for raising strong young women, so these are things that are important to me.”
She’s got a great point. I mean, on one hand, we all know photos are manipulated. We do it ourselves with our pictures with all the photo apps that are available on smartphones! Yet despite knowing how much a photo can be altered, it’s still hard to discount what you see with your own eyes.
Kate has been open about the fact that the aging process shouldn’t be hidden.
I have wrinkles here, which are very evident. And I will particularly say when I look at movie posters, ‘You guys have airbrushed my forehead. Please can you change it back?’ I’d rather be the woman they’re saying ‘She’s looking older’ about than ‘She’s looking stoned.’ “
Good point- LOL.
