Jeremy Renner kept it real when asked about the gender disparity issues in Hollywood. Bradley Cooper has said he’s going to start sharing the details of his negotiations with his female co-stars. Jeremy is not following suit.
When asked about it, he said:
That’s not my job.”
He added that he didn’t know about “contracts and money and all that sort of stuff.”
Jeremy sounds like he leaves it up to his agents to handle the business aspects. He said:
I’m a performer and I know human behavior. When it comes to that sort of stuff I let other people deal with that. I do what I’m good at, that’s what I focus on.”
He did say that he supports the idea of equal pay for actors. I understand where he’s coming from. It sounds like Jeremy doesn’t want to deal with the business stuff, whether it’s for himself or his co-stars. That sounds like a scary position to be in to me: you’re depending on other people to manage your livelihood? I’m far too much of a control freak for that myself ;). I can’t say I admire his stance, but hey, it’s his decision. Ultimately, it’s the studios’ practices that need to change.
