Have you been following Leah Remini as she promotes her new memoir, ‘Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology’? I watched her interview on ’20/20′ last Friday where she talked about her experiences in the Church of Scientology. It all sounds so crazy! She discussed Katie Holmes in another interview.
Leah said that she developed a new understanding of Katie’s situation after she (Leah) left Scientology in 2013.
I know now [Holmes] did what she did, leaving [Scientology] the way that she did, because she had to protect her daughter, which, in a way, connects us now. Now I know really what she was going through,” the 45-year-old said. “At the time I was thinking of myself and my family and what we were going through and, although painful, I had no idea she was going through probably a lot more.”
There’s nothing like walking a mile in someone else’s shoes, is there?
Katie’s publicist issued a statement to ’20/20′ producers (when Leah talked about how Katie had filed “Knowledge Reports” alleging misbehavior on Leah’s part) that said:
I regret having upset Leah in the past, and wish her only the best in the future.”
Leah said in response to Katie’s statement:
Seeing her and Suri out there in the world and her being able to be with her daughter and live her life is, you know, I’m touched by it. It’s really because we both left that we’re able to have this kind of grace towards each other. Because we’re back to being human.”
The Church of Scientology also released a statement about Leah’s memoir:
It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini with an insatiable craving for attention would exploit her former faith as a publicity stunt by rewriting her history with it. Including omitting that she was participating in a program to remain a Scientologist by her own choice, as she was on the verge of being expelled for her ethical lapses.”
What did Leah have to say about that?
I didn’t get the memo that I was expelled. But I mean, if that’s what makes them feel good.”
The whole thing just sounds so… bizarre. Yet at this point enough people have made similar statements that it’s hard not to believe what Leah is saying. Do you plan to check out her memoir ‘Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology’?
