Leah Remini is telling all in her new memoir ‘Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology.’ She especially isn’t holding back where Scientology is concerned and describes leaving the church as “a rebirth.”
I’ve been given a second chance at life and so has my family. It’s like a rebirth.”
She said that often, in Scientology, when someone decides to leave the church, other family members choose to stay and refuse to talk to the family member who left. Leah admitted she worried her mother and husband might do that. She said:
They simply put family ahead of the Church, which is oftentimes not the case with Scientology families. I am lucky and blessed.”
I can’t even IMAGINE being in a situation like that.
However, she discussed a disturbing encounter with Tom Cruise’s older kids, Isabella and Conner, after Tom’s wedding to Katie Holmes. Leah shared a ride to the airport with them after the wedding and asked them if they had spoken to their mother, Nicole Kidman. Bella reportedly replied:
Not if I have a choice. Our mom is a f—ing SP.”
Scientology calls non-believers “Suppressive Persons” and advises members to avoid them. OMG. Bella was 13 at the time. It’s no secret that the kids stayed with Tom after his divorce from Nicole, but it’s terrible to think that Scientology would condone something like that. Tom reportedly hasn’t seen Suri Cruise in person in a year. Could he be keeping his distance because she’s with Katie and being raised outside of Scientology? I really hope not. Nothing should break the parent-child bond.
If conditions really are like that within Scientology, then I can see why leaving the organization would be such a drastic step. A “rebirth” sounds about right!
