Kim Kardashian has been open about the fact that she suffered from the pregnancy complication placenta accreta, a condition where the placenta grows too deeply into the uterus. It made her delivery difficult, just like it did for her delivery of North.
A source said:
She had a really tough birth because of the issues with her placenta.”
Normally when a woman delivers a baby, the placenta comes out as well. However, when placenta accreta occurs, it doesn’t detach from the uterine wall and come out. That means the doctor has to reach in and scrape it out with her or his fingers.
Kim said the doctor’s removal of the placenta during North’s birth was “the most painful experience ” of her life, so she was worried about it for Saint’s delivery.
There’s not a whole lot I can do to prevent it, so my anxiety is a little high leading up to my delivery.”
Kim also had said previously that the condition put her at risk for a hysterectomy.
They think I’ll have placenta accreta again, so if the placenta grows a little bit deeper than it did last time, then they are prepared to have my uterus removed, which is a little scary for me.”
We haven’t heard anything about Kim having a hysterectomy, but sources told TMZ it took doctors an extra two hours to deal with the placenta removal. She’s said to be in a lot of pain right now, which is why she and Saint are still in the hospital. Childbirth is wonderful, of course, in that a new life comes into the world, but it’s not all a bed of roses…
