If you’re still reeling from the fall season of ‘Empire’ and already counting down the days until it returns this winter, know that more addictive TV from Lee Daniels is coming our way! Queen Latifah is set to star in the ‘Empire’ spinoff called ‘Star.’
Queen Latifah will play the owner of a beauty salon with an amazing voice. She is a mother figure to three aspiring singers looking to make it big in the music industry. Rather than being set in New York, however, like ‘Empire,’ ‘Star’ will be set in Atlanta.
So will there be crossover episodes between ‘Empire’ and ‘Star’? Fox chairman and CEO Dana Walden said this about that:
The possibility of a crossover at some point exists but it’s definitely not what we’re planning right now. It’s a modern day music business in Atlanta and Empire is modern day music business in New York. It’s not inconceivable that the two worlds could cross. But that’s definitely not Lee’s intention as we go into it.”
Dana also said that ‘Star’ is a “wholly original series,” so I guess it’s really not a spinoff. All the same, I’m looking forward to checking it out. We’ll see if Lee Daniels can strike gold twice! By the way, did you catch Queen Latifah as the wizard in ‘The Wiz’? She, as well as the rest of the cast, was amazing. Are you looking forward to watching ‘Star’?
