PE Teacher Amber Plummer got something of a shock when one of her students came to her and asked for help losing weight. Her student had gained 78 pounds throughout the academic year, and Amber herself hadn’t even noticed! She thought she was teaching her students to live a healthy lifestyle, but she realized that something needed to change. She developed a class called ‘Girls on the Go.’
It sounds like it was quite an eye-opening experience when Amber looked at her students who were over 200 lbs and realized all of them had gained weight during the year. She focuses on teaching them how to actually apply healthy principles to their lifestyles. Here’s a description of the video:
PE teacher Amber Plummer of Eliot Arts Magnet in Altadena was shocked by the number of overweight female students in her classes, so she started a special program called Girls On The Go to empower her students to take their health into their own hands.
Class Act is a new series sponsored by the California Lottery to showcase inspiring teachers making an impact in their schools and communities.
This is probably the single most important class these girls will have in school! Nothing is more important than your health. And it sounds like these girls are learning about more than exercise and nutrition: they’re learning self-confidence and the power of love itself from their PE teacher’s love. Check it out below:
