Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, is relinquishing some of his duties. Since the Duke is 94, it makes sense that he would be slowing down a bit. Here’s the Kensington Palace Instagram post about Kate’s new position:
The Duke of Edinburgh today passed his patronage of the Royal Air Force cadets to The Duchess of Cambridge. During an audience at Buckingham Palace, The Duke relinquished the role as Air Commodore-in-Chief, bringing an end to his 63 year patronage. The Duchess becomes Honorary Air Commandant of #AirCadets. Sixty-three years of service: that’s impressive, isn’t it? This event occurred after the holiday lunch that Queen Elizabeth held for the royal family.
Kate was welcomed to her new role by Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty:

The Air Commodore said in a statement about Prince Phillip:
[He] is admired and respected by cadets and volunteers alike and we will miss his ready sense of humor and genuine interest in the development of the nation’s youth.”
I’m sure Kate is up for the task!
