Bill Cosby is continuing his “scorched earth” strategy: in addition to suing seven of the women who’ve accused him of sexually assaulting them for defamation, he’s now also suing Beverly Johnson over her claims that he sexually assaulted her. Meanwhile, a new accuser is suing Bill over allegations that he sexually assaulted her.
Bill claims that Beverly’s interviews where she alleged he sexually assaulted her were a smear campaign to revive her “failing career.” He said that, contrary to Beverly’s claims, they only dined at his house with his wife, Camille Cosby, never alone. It will be quite something to see how this plays out: the truth of the matter is that this is all a “he said, she said” situation, but there are SO many accusations. It seems unlikely that all of these women just decided to go after Bill Cosby, doesn’t it? And he did admit in a deposition in one case to giving at least one woman drugs in order to have sex with her. Yet, from a legal perspective, is the sheer number of accusations sufficient proof to avoid defamation? Hmmm…
Meanwhile, Katherine McKee, who used to date Sammy Davis Jr., alleges that Bill Cosby sexually assaulted her in the 1970s. Since the statue of limitations has expired, she’s suing him for defamation since he called her a liar after she first made her accusations publicly.
What a mess.
