Competing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ truly was a life-changing experience for the latest ballroom champion, Bindi Irwin. She’s back home in her native Australia now, and she opened up about participating in the dance competition.
Bindi covered Women’s Weekly Australia:
During the interview, she opened up about the fears she experienced after the untimely death of her father, Steve Irwin, especially when it came to her mother and brother.
It was really bad when I was younger, now I just have this sense that I want to protect them, so it’s always ‘be safe’ and ‘I love you.’
“When your superhero dies, that’s really scary. The strongest person has been taken away, so what about everyone else?”
That makes sense. Bindi was only eight years old when her father died, and his death was such a shock. Bindi said that competing in ‘Dancing with the Stars’ was therapeutic for her.
It changed my life, because I was able to close those chapters that I’d never really been able to close before. It really gave me an opportunity to say, ‘Okay, I can be at peace with it, and I’m okay.'”
She said she also has the support of her boyfriend, Chandler Powell.
He’s the first person I’ve met who understands my life – the travel and the work and that real dedication and determination. I think that’s why I love him so much, because he gets my world.”
Chandler sounds like a keeper! It’s great that ‘DWTS’ was such an amazing experience for Bindi. It’ll be interesting to see what she does next.
