Everyone is talking about Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Revenant.’ It turns out we might have been talking about him even more a few years ago: he was considered for the role of Anakin Skywalker in George Lucas’s ‘Star Wars’ prequels.
Leo admitted in an interview:
I did have a meeting with George Lucas about that, yes. [I] just didn’t feel ready to take that dive. At that point.”
I remember he seemed very ambivalent about starring in ‘Titanic,’ a commercial blockbuster that landed him on Hollywood’s A-list. If I recall correctly, James Cameron said in an interview that, at one point, he wondered why Leonardo had taken the part, since he seemed so unhappy doing a big commercial movie.
It turns out the role of Anakin Skywalker wasn’t the only major role that Leonardo has turned down over the years. He was considered for the role of Robin in ‘Batman Forever’ as well as Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man.’ However, Leo says he’s open to starring in some of these big movies in the future.
You never know. You never know. They’re getting better and better as far as complex characters in these movies. I haven’t yet. But no, I don’t rule out anything.”
That’s true! Leo does seem to be most interested in the acting challenge, so if a role can offer him that, then he’s interested. It makes sense: he is an incredibly talented actor who is LONG overdue for an Academy Award. Maybe 2016 will be his year!
