REESE WITHERSPOON
Love It Or Hate It: 2014 Independent Spirit Awards Red Carpet Style

reese witherspoon 2014 film independent spirit awards (1)

Here’s Reese Witherspoon at the 2014 Independent Spirit Awards, working the red carpet! Now, you all know I normally LOVE Reese’s sense of style. I feel too repetitious sometimes, talking about how much I love outfit after outfit that I see her wearing when she’s out and about going to lunch, taking a meeting, or shopping. So I admit I had to do a double-take when I saw these red carpet pics.

I did a double-take because… well… this is NOT a dress I would have chosen for Reese if I were her stylist (and obviously, I am not). Reese looks lovely no matter what: that goes without saying. Yet this dress just isn’t working for me. I don’t feel it’s flattering to her. At all. Petite Reese almost looks, well, stocky in it, and her body is NOT stocky. I can’t tell if the skirt is a little too full and short or if it’s the white stripe around her waist, at the bottom of her top.  Everyone has a swing and a miss, right? I’m sure Reese will Kill It tonight at the Oscars. Has something gone wrong with my eyesight? I’ve gotta ask…

LUPITA NYONG’O & SHAILENE WOODLEY
Celebs At 2014 Independent Spirit Awards

2014 film independent spirit awards (1)

Last night was the last major awards show before the Big One (a.k.a. the Academy Awards), the 2014 Independent Spirit Awards! The red carpet was decidedly low-key. Nominee Lupita Nyong’o, who’s worn so many brightly colored dresses that MTV Style wrote an article titled “Here’s Proof That Lupita Nyong’o Has Worn Every Color Ever Invented,” went with an understated tan romper. ‘Divergent‘ star Shailene Woodley bared her toned abs in her top and long skirt. Angela Bassett POPPED (in a good way) in her bright orange frock.

Anna Kendrick had fun with a bold stripe on her white dress while Zoe Kravitz rocked her sleeveless romper. Cate Blanchett and Krysten Ritter both had fun with bold patterns. Elizabeth Moss and Rosario Dawson, on the other hand, looked like they were ready for a day at the office! Kristen Bell was a beauty in blue, and I loved Paula Patton’s lacy yellow dress. Maria Bello went with a menswear-inspired outfit. And I absolutely LOVED Camila Alves’ strapless peplum top and matching trousers: SO chic. What do you think of these red carpet looks?

KERRY WASHINGTON & LUPITA NYONG’O
NAACP Image Awards (Complete Winners List)

Kerry Washington/Lupita Nyong'o

Kerry Washington/Lupita Nyong’o

Last night the NAACP held its major awards show of the year: the NAACP image awards! Kerry Washington and her ‘Scandal’ stars were there. Kerry’s keeping her baby bump chic, isn’t she? Lupita Nyong’o and her ’12 Years a Slave’ cast mates worked the red carpet. Forrest Whitaker received some much deserved recognition for his acting in ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler.’ Is it just me or has that movie kind of gotten lost in the awards show hoopla?

Well, Oprah Winfrey was there to support the movie and the NAACP Image Awards. So was Stevie Wonder: it’s always great to see him! Take a look at the red carpet pictures. Like the other awards shows this season, the focus seems to be on the clothes with minimal accessories. We’re not seeing the bling we’ve seen in years past. It’s a nice change, although I love ogling jewelry, too- LOL. Congratulations to all the winners at the 2014 NAACP Image Awards!

EMMA WATSON
Fashion Fun At 2014 Elle Awards: Love It Or Hate It?

emma watson elle awards 2014 (1)

Former ‘Harry Potter‘ star Emma Watson chose a great occasion to experiment with style! Here’s Emma working the red carpet at the Elle Awards in London. What do you make of her outfit? Really, the question is, what do you make of her skirt? From what I can see looking at the front and side (she was careful not to get any pictures from the rear!), it looks like a very fitted mini-skirt with an oversized bow on the front.

Emma had some fun, fashion-wise, at the Golden Globes, too. Remember the trousers she wore under the thigh-high slit/backless dress? What I love about Emma’s fashion choices is that she’s wearing eye-catching outfits without resorting to the trick of flaunting a lot of skin. For a lot of celebs, that seems to be what a “fashion risk” is today: showing as much as you can without getting arrested for indecent exposure. LOVE that Emma isn’t resorting to that!
