Back to the event - Halle was the host of the evening and has aligned herself with the organization because of her history with family domestic abuse. Growing up, the actress witnessed her mother being abused by her father. What a horrible thing to have to witness. It's nice to see Halle took the trauma and turned it into something positive.

Halle Berry Admits She Used To Be Attracted To The Wrong Men
Halle Berry used to be attracted to abusive men. The Oscar-winning beauty regularly witnessed her father attack her mother when she was growing up and says it affected her choice in partners.
"My mother was a battered woman and that was my childhood for a good chunk of it.
"Early on in my life, I made choices, and I chose men that were abusive because that was what I knew growing up."
However, she underwent therapy and learned what to do if and when a relationship became violent. The 43-year-old actress has now found happiness with model Gabriel Aubry, the father of her 19-month-old daughter Nahla.
She is also using her experiences to help others who have suffered domestic abuse and works closely with the Jenesse Center, a Los Angeles-based shelter which provides support for victims.
Halle – who was honored by the center four years ago for her humanitarian work - said:
"I care, I really care about these women and children."

Halle Berry To Be Honored With Leadership Award
Halle Berry is set to receive the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award next month at The Hollywood Reporter's 18th annual Women in Entertainment breakfast. This award recognizes groundbreaking contributions to the entertainment industry. Wow, I bet she's thrilled.
"The complex role that Halle Berry plays in life as a successful, versatile entertainment professional who is committed to furthering the well-being of others, especially minorities, is as inspiring as are her film roles," THR editor Elizabeth Guider said. "The recognition is also wonderfully fitting in a year in which diversity has been embraced and rewarded at the highest levels of our government and culture."
Hilary Swank will be the keynote speaker at the breakfast.
A few other actresses who've won the award: Barbara Walters, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster and Glenn Close. Impressive company to be in, right?

Halle Berry's Daughter Learning To Play Golf
Little Nahla is learning a lot from her parents, Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry. Gabriel attended the Maybach Golf Cup 2009 Tournament in Pacific Palisades on Monday. He shared that Nahla is trying to golf already!
"She started playing golf! She has a little hole in the backyard,"
When asked if she'd be the "next star with the clubs" he responded:
"Well, let's just wait [and see]," Aubry added with a grin.
They are also teaching Nahla to speak French. I've heard you should start that at a very early age and it's so much easier for them to pick it up.
Aubry, who is French-Canadian, says he is teaching his little girl to speak French as well.
