Madonna Visits The Families Of The Men Killed On Her Set
Madonna has traveled to France to visit the families of the men killed when her stage set collapsed.
The singer arrived in Marseilles with two of her children – David, three, and four-year-old Mercy - yesterday, and hugged the widow of one of the men during the emotional meeting.
Wearing a black dress and jacket, Madonna said:
“Let's all just take a moment to say a prayer for Charles Criscenzo and Charlie Prow. Our hearts go out to their family and loved ones.”
The 50-year-old singer also visited two hospitals where eight other people who were injured in the accident are being cared for.
A source said:
“She wanted to make a positive gesture. She won't be performing but will be showing solidarity with the victims' families. She is moved by what happened and feels very personally involved.”
Charles Prow, 23, and Charles Criscenzo, 53, were killed when the partially-built roof for the set at the city's Velodrome stadium caved in, bringing down a crane.
Technicians had been setting up the stage at the 60,000-seater stadium when the partially-built structure collapsed.
Madonna - who was due to play five shows at the venue from Sunday (19.07.09) – quickly issued a statement, saying:
"I'm devastated at the tragic news. My prayers go to those who were injured and their families."
A manslaughter investigation has been opened amid claims one of the cranes maneuvering the set was faulty.
A stadium worker said:
“Normally four cranes are used to lift temporary roofs, but on this occasion only three were being used. It was a recipe for disaster.”
Another Worker Dies From Madonna's Set Collapse

This is just awful!! A second worker has died following the collapse of Madonna's stage set.
Charles Prow, 32, from Headingley, died overnight from the
injuries he sustained in the accident in Marseilles.
A 53-year-old Frenchman died instantly when the partially-built roof for the
set at the city's Velodrome stadium caved in, bringing down a crane.
Eight other people were seriously hurt, including an American who is
said to be in a critical condition. More than 30 others suffered minor
injuries and shock.
Technicians had been setting up the stage at the city's 60,000-seater
stadium when the partially-built structure fell in.
One worker said:
"Technicians knew what they were doing, but there was a
terrible accident. Sadly, these things can happen."
French officials have opened an investigation for manslaughter, and experts
are already examining the scene and interviewing witnesses.
The singer - who was due to play five shows at the venue from Sunday - issued a statement about the tragedy, saying:
"I'm devastated
at the tragic news. My prayers go to those who were injured and their
families."
The 50-year-old pop star was told of the accident while she was rehearsing
for her concert at Friuli Stadium, in Udine, Italy, yesterday.
Later in the evening, she stopped her performance and tearfully told the
audience:
"I ask you for a moment to stop and think of the people who have
lost their lives, we need to appreciate life, the people we love and our
families."
Dreadful. Hopefully, everyone else will pull through.

Madonna's Tour Set Collapses!

OMG, this is just awful. One of the sets that Madonna uses for her Sticky & Sweet tour just collapsed today in France, killing one and injuring 6 people. So far police are still trying to rescue more people who are trapped.
The accident occured in Nice's Stade Velodrome at 5:15 p.m. local time
(11:15 a.m. EST) during preparations for her next show. Police and fire
officials are closing down the stadium while trying to rescue those
still trapped. The concert, planned for Sunday, July 19, has been cancelled.
So I am guessing that it collapsed during rehearsals and the person who died was working on the tour....not much info is available so I'll update more as news comes out.
Update: It was the roof that collapsed while they were working on putting up the set. Maddona has issued a statement regarding the incident:
"I am devastated to have just received this tragic news," the singer
said in a statement Thursday through her spokesperson Liz Rosenberg.
"My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along
with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking
news."

Madonna And Lady Gaga In Paris

Madonna and her kids were spotted in Paris. I'm guessing she might be there to take in some of the fashion shows going on right now or maybe work, so she made it a family trip in order for the kids to be able to take in some of the sights!
And then there's Lady Gaga. I could literally write a post every day on her crazy outfits. But, I just don't know what there is to say...here's Lady Gaga, out and about, wearing something INSANE again. Are you sick of seeing her, or still interested in what she'll go out in next?
