Will Maksim Chmerkovskiy Step In For Derek Hough on 'DWTS'?

Derek Hough isn't feeling so hot. Or... maybe I should say he's feeling a bit TOO hot these days. The poor dancer is dealing with a pretty serious bout of the flu and has hinted that Maksim Chmerkovskiy is returning to the show and helping his partner, Joanna Krupa learn their routine.
"Woke up with the serious sweats .. I think I'm getting the flu ... Had a bath now trying to get more sleep ... Bummer .. Tough week."
"My whole body is aching like crazy I can barely stand up ... And I'm coughing like crazy.. This sucks."
"At the docs for 3 hrs today ... Had a temperature of 104 ... Had an IV in my arm for 2hrs ... Maks is steppin up for me helpin Jo."
Will Derek be able to perform next week on the show? Or will Maksim get another turn on the dance floor? Only a few more days to find out. "Dancing with the Stars" airs next on Monday night at 8PM on ABC.
Celebrities Attend Star Magazine's 5th Year Anniversary Party

Star Magazine held their 5th Year Anniversary Celebration at Bardot in Los Angeles last night. Lo Bosworth, Lady Victoria Hervey, Tila Tequila, Joe Francis, Shayne Lamas, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Gilles Marini, Bai Ling, Darin Brooks, and Coco walked the black carpet and posed for pictures. It's funny because 90% of those celebs are never featured in Star - they hardly get any press. Guess the magazine burned too many A list bridges with their outrageous cover stories and allegations.
Any outfit standing out to you? Bai Ling and Jon Gosselin should hook up. LOL!

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Gets Real About Break-Up With Karina Smirnoff

'Dancing with the Stars' pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy apparently decided to quit the niceties and the "we're still friends who care for each other a great deal" line that you typically hear when celebs break-up. When Life & Style asked Maksim if he was still friends with ex-fiancee Karina Smirnoff, he gave a candid response.
"No," he said at the LA County Fair on Sept. 27. "She's a lot better at hiding her feelings apparently than I am. I just need to drop the sad person act and move on."
Well, obviously the engagement ended for a reason. Do you find Maksim's honesty refreshing or in poor taste?

Maksim Danced For Ex Karina At The Emmy's

This is another I Cannot Imagine situation. 'Dancing with the Stars' pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff ended their engagement, but they had already agreed to do a dance together for the Emmy Awards, and they went ahead with it.
Maksim admitted it was hard, but he did it for Karina.
"Honestly the majority of what I did today was because I knew how big of a deal it was for her," he told PEOPLE at the Entertainment Tonight/PEOPLE after-party. "She wants this. She wants to see how she can excel. Dancing at the Emmys was such an amazing spotlight. I just wanted to make sure to give it to her even if it's the last thing I do. So I wanted to do the best job I could, but it was hard."
It sounds like last night wasn't all smooth sailings, however. According to E!'s Marc Malkin, the two argued backstage before and after their dance, saying "It got kind of loud."
Maksim called the video tribute to them "ridiculous," but he said he did not expect their break-up to affect 'Dancing with the Stars.' I hope not! I'm glad they got through it. What did you think of their dance?

Denise Richards' DWTS Strategy

Now that her participation in the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars has been announced, contestant Denise Richards shares her fears and her strategy for surviving the show.
'My biggest fear is just forgetting everything right before going on
live, that’s what I’m scared of,' the actress tells PEOPLE of her new
role as contestant on the eighth season of Dancing With the Stars. 'All I hope is that I don’t embarrass my girls!' "
I'm sure her daughters will be excited and proud of their mom no matter what! Denise sounds like she has some of the basic physical attributes of a dancer since she describes herself as "flexible and coordinated" even if she is, well, inexperienced (by her own admission)
'I’m completely out of my element because I’ve never danced before.
Never!' she says. 'I just met (Maks) this morning and I’m really
excited that he’s my partner. He’s an amazing, amazing dancer. I told
him he’s got his work cut out for him, but it’ll be fun.' "
Well, it sounds like Denise has the right attitude! I can't imagine doing that show if I'd never danced before, but it certainly does look like fun ;)

Karina Smirnoff Blows Out Her Knee

Dancing with the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff missed an appearance with fiance Maksim Chmerkovskiy because of a knee injury that required surgery. Luckily, the injury is not career-threatening.
'The doctor ordered Karina to stay put, but I know that she really wanted to come and was ready to party!' an insider tells Life & Style.
'Her injury was the result of wear and tear -- not a specific incident,'
another insider adds. 'Being a dancer, you have to really take care of
yourself. If you're going from this to that then to something else and
you never get a break, it takes its toll.' "
Being a dancer is tough on the body! However, Karina is still expected to be ready to go this March for the next season of Dancing with the Stars. Get well soon, Karina!

Marriage Proposals Can Be Humorous And Romantic

Picture this: Dancing with the Stars pros Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who've reportedly been dating for approximately four months, are together in a hotel room decorated with rose petals and candles.
There's a Louis Vuitton box. Inside the box is a Miroir line handbag. And inside the bag is a 3-carat Harry Winston engagement ring. That alone was quite a shock for Karina, although it sounds lovely.
I actually freaked out. I opened the box up and saw the ring. I closed it thinking 'o shoot something is going to happen, ' but he wasn't saying anything. Like Maksim was sitting on the bed being completely silent."
Then Maksim started talking.
Maksim admits that his proposal was a "discombobulated rant." And he didn't get down on bended knee.
But, let's give Maksim credit for the rose petals, the candles, the handbag, the ring, and, of course, actually proposing!
(I've heard so many guys complain that they get no credit for having to initiate things, from asking women out on the first date to actually proposing, that I had to toss that in there ;) ).
Now that Maksim's done it, he has some advice for others planning a proposal.
