Click here to watch Mel Gibson's first interview since the drunken incident with Diane Sawyer. Full clip will air on Good Morning America this Thursday and Friday!
Here is a taste:

  • Diane Sawyer: "What did you think it was?"

  • Mel Gibson: "Me? It was just the stupid rambling of a drunkard, you know and & what I need to do to heal myself and to be assuring and allay the fears of others and to heal them if they had any heart wounds from something I may have said. So, this is the last thing I want to be is that kind of monster," Gibson said.

Pink Defends Mel Gibson

I tried to stay away from the Mel Gibson stories because at least one celebrity a day comes forward to defend him. This one surprised me though. Pink, who says she is Jewish, is blaming his hateful slurs on his drinking and wishes him well. I wonder if this mess will seriously have an impact on Mel's career. The majority of Hollywood's decision makers are Jewish.

She says, "I'm a fan of his work. I think anybody with opinions like that needs well-wishing. And I'm Jewish. Alcohol makes you do crazy things."

Actually, if you are up for a little celebrity betting, BoDog has this wager:
Will Mel Gibson break any of the conditions attached to his 3-year probation by December 31st, 2006?

  • YES +200 (2/1)>

  • NO -300(1/3)

Gawker Is Hilarious!

I was never one to jump on the Gawker bandwagon, but these ads have made me sing a different tune. We all saw the Gwyneth Platrow "I Am African" ads. WELL, Gawker was so inspired by the VISION that they decided to put together a few of their own. Click on the thumbnails below to see what I'm talking about.
Then when you are finished, have a jump over to their site.

Could Mel Gibson Face Some Jail Time?

If OJ Simpson avoided jail time, I am sure Mel Gibson has a fair shot at it as well. Mel was charged with "misdemeanor driving under the influence and having an open container of liquor in his car" on Wednesday and could possibly face a 6 month jail term. I doubt it will happen, but Mr. Gibson must be shaking in his boots as we speak.

As Mel Gibson tries to salvage his reputation in the court of public opinion, the actor was charged on Wednesday with misdemeanor driving under the influence and having an open container of liquor in his car when he was pulled over in Malibu last week. If convicted, he faces up to six months in jail, although first-time offenders, like the actor, are usually spared serving jail time. (source)

The Moments Before And After The Mel Gibson Arrest

Mel Gibson has been forgiven by the Anti-Defamation League for the hateful words he blurted out as he was getting arrested for drunk driving. Mel released a statement asking for the Jewish community to reach out and help him understand his actions and they responded. This is all very shocking isn't it? I just can't believe that Mel Gibson would do these things. But he is on the road to recovery and that is all we can ask for. The pictures on this post are from the night Mel got arrested.

"I am not a bigot. I am in the process of understanding where those vicious words came form during that drunken display, and I am asking the Jewish community, whom I have personally offended, to help me on my journey through recovery. Again, I am reaching out to the Jewish community for its help." In response, ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman issued a statement saying, "This is the apology we had sought and requested. We are glad that Mel Gibson has finally owned up to the fact that he made anti-Semitic remarks, and his apology sounds sincere. We welcome his efforts to repair the damage he has caused, to reach out to the Jewish community, and to seek help. Once he completes his rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, we will be ready and willing to help him with his second rehabilitation to combat this disease of prejudice." Gibson has since been invited to speak to the Jewish Community on their holy day of atonement, Yom Kippur, in a bid to smooth relations. (source)

Mel Gibson Enters Rehab

Mel Gibson has had some week huh? First he gets arrested for driving while intoxicated. Then he slurs some hateful comments while fighting off the police. And now he placed himself into rehab. Isn't rehab the "Get Out Of Jail For Free" card celebrities like to pull whenever they want to erase something horrible they did from public memory?
Now that he is getting help, are we all supposed to forget what he said? And I love when celebrities or their people make comments that are designed to instill some empathy in me for their situation. Alan Neirob (Mel's rep) said he is "participating in an ongoing program to deal with this. The guy is trying to stay alive." Trying to stay alive? TRYING TO STAY ALIVE? I can show you people who are really trying to stay alive. Give me a break.

Troubled star Mel Gibson has checked himself into a recovery program for alcohol abuse. Gibson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Malibu, California early Friday morning. The Oscar-winner's representative, Alan Neirob, confirmed the actor had entered rehab, saying he was "participating in an ongoing program to deal with this. The guy is trying to stay alive." Neirob declined to describe the program or say how long Gibson planned to be there.
On Saturday, Gibson issued a statement apologizing for his behavior after the arrest. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department turned the case over to the district attorney Monday and the DA's office is now reviewing the information to determine whether to press charges. Controversy erupted over the weekend over allegations the Sheriff's Department was considering removing offensive remarks Gibson made at the time of his arrest from the official report. However, a law enforcement official said the report the sheriff's department turned over Monday substantiates claims that Gibson made anti-Semitic remarks and threatened a deputy. DA spokesperson Jane Robinson tells American publication People, "We believe we received a complete report, but can't comment on the details of it." An arraignment is set for September 28. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Disney said Monday the studio plans to release Gibson's latest film, Apocalypto, as scheduled December 8. (source)
