Is 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' Moving To Cable?

According to Deadline Hollywood Daily's Nikki Finke (a reporter who focuses exclusively on Hollywood), it's true. Oprah Winfrey reportedly will move her talk show to her cable network, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) in 2011.
I've learned that in coming days Winfrey and Discovery will issue a press release announcing OWN's on-air launch for the start of 2011. And, in several weeks, Oprah will tell the public that she's ending her syndicated Chicago-based daytime talk show when her current deal runs out and moving it to OWN headquarters in Los Angeles probably as soon as mid-2011.
Cable is definitely growing, but it doesn't have anywhere near the audience-size of regular TV (despite lots of buzz). Oprah's been so successful for so long that she'll be fine no matter what, and I'm guessing much of her audience has cable, but for all those who don't: no more Oprah.
This could be the end of an era (or lead to a true explosion in cable :). If it's true.

Jillian Michaels Says Oprah Has It All Wrong

Jillian Michaels likes to just shoot from the hip and not mince words! She was interviewed for Health Magazine's November issue and conveyed her thoughts on a few subjects from Oprah to organics to why she has her own personal trainer!
if there’s someone I think is utterly misguided, it would be Oprah Winfrey. She says she had a thyroid problem and ate soy, and I’m like, How? Where is Dr. Oz? She’s just so misinformed, it is shocking to me on a daily basis. Soy is terrible for you [if you have thyroid issues].”
People familiar with Jillian's "ways" might know that she's a huge advocate of organic foods and products. When asked about ways people can improve their health:
“Go organic. That would be the one thing—it’s not even exercise. Our food is corn derivatives, food derivatives and chemicals. It is making us fat and sick.”
Jillian is also huge on fitness - not just walking. I can hear her voice on the "Shred" dvd - "when someone tells you just take the stairs - it is a false message of lethargy".
"We sell ourselves short when it comes to capability and potential. We read on the treadmill. We walk. People will be like, ‘I’ve been walking.’ And I’m like, ‘Really, Really?’ ‘OK, you walked to the car, and then to the door at the mall, and then you took the stairs, too? Come on, man.’ If I can take a 66-year-old man and train him six hours a day, six days a week, you can do more than just take the stairs! People have no concept of what the human body is really designed to do. They have no concept of their strength! And they function in a zone that is well below what their potential really is.”
She's far from perfect and will admit that she KNOWS how hard it is to keep yourself motivated to do it every single day. She shared the area of her life that she struggles in:
“The only thing I would tell you is fitness… Yeah, it’s exercise. I’m like, ‘ugh,’ because I know that with diet and sleep and lifestyle, I can control my weight. I get tired, man, I get so tired! And if I don’t work with a trainer, I’m like ‘OK, I ran my 30 minutes, I’m going home.’ People often ask me, ‘Why do you work with a trainer?’ And I say, “Because he’s a monster. He pushes me in ways I wouldn’t push myself.’” Michaels also notes, “I’m totally flattered [being named America’s Healthiest Body]. But I just think, ‘God, if people had any idea of the stuff that goes on behind closed doors: the struggles in the middle of the night in front of the refrigerator, the weeks on end I can’t get my ass to the gym!’ But, in reality, there’s a part of me where it makes perfect sense.”
I will admit I was very shocked to hear she had her own trainer! I suppose if she's busy motivating other people - who's going to be there to motivate her? Makes sense!
Are you watching the current season of The Biggest Loser? It's pretty early in the season, but are you cheering on any particular competitor yet? That Tracey is sure keeping things interesting! LOL

Whitney Houston Tells Oprah About Her Marriage To Bobby Brown

It sounds like Whitney Houston's interview with Oprah Winfrey was truly a no-holds-barred one! Whitney described ex-husband Bobby Brown as "emotionally abusive" during their marriage. She said that one time, Bobby spit on her.
"[I] was horrified he spit on me, in my face" and that left her "very hurt, very angry."
"[H]e slapped me once, but he got hit on the head three times by me."
"He was my drug," Whitney told Oprah. "I didn't do anything without him."
Whitney also said she was addicted to drugs, and it was her mother, Cissy Houston, who intervened.
[I]t got so bad that her mother enlisted sheriff's deputies to force the singer into rehab. Mom Cissy Houston said, 'I'm not losing you to the world. I'm not losing you to Satan. ... I want my daughter back,' " Houston recalls.
Bobby was there at the time. "She said, 'If you move, Bobby, they're gonna take you down. Don't you make one move,' " Houston tells Winfrey. "And he stood there like -- he was scared."
The entire interview airs on Oprah today. I have to admit, I'm incredibly curious about what she has to say. Are you?

Jay-Z And Beyonce Offended Some People When They Got Married

Jay-Z confided to Oprah Winfrey that he and Beyonce offended some people when they wed. It sounds completely unintentional, but Jay-Z said that one of the ways they kept their wedding quiet was with "late planning" and a limited guest list.
The sad part is that we offended some," he said of not inviting a lot
of friends. "But people who love you understand. Because at the end of
the day, it’s your day."
Jay-Z said they had a very small wedding at his Tribeca apartment followed by "a lavish party." Jay-Z also talked to Oprah about his past as a drug dealer and music lyrics.
You can read more here and the entire interview will be available in the October issue of O Magazine, which hits newsstands in early September.

Oprah Winfrey Responds To Critics

Some people (a blogger and a biologist, among others) are publicly criticizing Oprah Winfrey for "abus[ing] her influence and credibility by promoting health 'cures' that are ineffective and dangerous" on her daytime talk show. Oprah issued a statement in response.
'For 23 years, my show has presented thousands of topics that reflect
the human experience, including doctors' medical advice and personal
health stories that have prompted conversations between our audience
members and their health care providers,' Winfrey says in a statement. 'I trust the viewers, and I know that they are smart and discerning
enough to seek out medical opinions to determine what may be best for
them.' "
When it comes to guests who are spreading misinformation, Suzanne Somers, Jenny McCarthy, and Christiane Northrup were identified.
Do you agree with the criticism, Oprah's response, or is this whole issue a tempest in a teapot?

Oprah Winfrey And Tiger Woods Are Top African American Earners

Of COURSE Oprah Winfrey is the richest African American celebrity. She makes $260 million a year. The day she's knocked off her throne I will probably pass out of shock.
Tiger Woods comes in a distant second, earning $100 million, with Jay-Z in third, earning $83 million a year. After that 50 Cent is 4th, making $33 million a year. That's quite a jump between Jay-Z and 50, I'm surprised there aren't a few people in between.
Beyonce, Will Smith, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal all round out the top ten on the Forbes list. Wouldn't it just be nice to be in the top 100 on any Forbes highest earners list???

Oprah And Gwyneth Paltrow Talk Weight Loss

Are you on the first day of your new weight loss plan for 2009? Both Oprah Winfrey and Gwyneth Paltrow are talking about losing weight. Oprah discussed it on her TV show while Gwyneth shared her plan on her website, GOOP.
Oprah blames her weight gain on abusing food to handle an unbalanced life.
It's about using food – abusing food. Too much work. Not enough play.
Not enough time to come down. Not enough time to really relax."
She plans to make time in her 14-hour day to exercise. Life moves so fast these days; it really can be a challenge just to find the time.
Gwyneth, meanwhile, is dealing with seasonal weight gain (I'm sure some of you can relate!)
It is that time of year, folks. I need to lose a few pounds of holiday excess. Anyone else?"
She plans to shed the pounds with a detox. Gwyneth utilizes the services of a detox diet specialist, and with that person's advice, created a seven-day detox plan that seems to consist of smoothies, soups, and chicken.
If you are not working with a diet detox specialist, then, as Gwyneth writes, "Make sure you check with your doctor before you start any detox."
Do any of you detox? Or are you more like Oprah and go the diet and exercise route?
