Some celebs seem like they'd rather protect their public image than play an unatttractive character. While others like Charlize Theron ugly up and are rewarded...in her case with an Oscar! Maybe Penelope Cruz is hoping to follow in those footsteps. She says she'll do what it takes for whatever person she has to play.

"If a character needs to look good then you try to find the look for that character. If it means to look bad then you have to put your ego away - whatever the character needs. I have no worries about that."

In my opinion, Penelope is hands down one of the most gorgeous women in the industry...so I find it hard to imagine her as ugly no matter what the role!

Oh no!!

Penelope Cruz has been struck down with food poisoning in Cannes. The Oscar-winning actress is in France for the prestigious Film Festival but had to pull out of a planned presentation of clips from new musical movie ‘Nine’ after falling ill. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the film’s producer Harvey Weinstein revealed:

"She's got some kind of food poisoning. She's been really sick and is being treated by a doctor. “Tomorrow night is her premiere for her movie, so she really wants to get better."

Penelope is believed to have fallen ill after eating fish on Sunday, but luckily was well enough to  make it to the premiere of her other new movie ‘Broken Embraces'. (pictured in this set)

Having food poisoning is the absolute WORST! I'm glad she was able to enjoy at least one of the premieres.

Hollywood isn't kind to aging actresses. Sure, the older men get, the better parts they're able to snag, but for women, I think this business really chews them up and spits them out as they get older.

Fortunately, Penelope Cruz has great role models helping her to be less afraid.

"Age holds absolutely no fear for me. There is so much enjoyment ahead."

She says that Sophia Loren has really helped her with the mental process.

"Sophia is 74 and amazing – every time I talk to her, she’s full of wonderful stories about old actors."

But, even though Penelope is a knock-out she admits that she has her moments, just like the rest of us.

"I know myself a little bit more. Of course, some things remain a mystery and that is a search that never ends, but I wish I was less insecure.

I’ve always had my insecurities and most of them have not gone away. I guess we’re all vulnerable."

Although, with women like Demi Moore and Madonna leading the way maybe the industry is slowly becoming more accepting of casting women who are no longer in their 20's, in leading roles.

Penelope Cruz was photographed arriving back in Spain for the first time ever since her Oscar win. What a homecoming, she must be so happy to be back! She gave a quick little quote to the reporters before heading home.

I just arrived tonight. Of course the Oscar came with me, and here is where it will stay.

And in other news, you'll see her as a blond for her next film with Pedro Almodovar. The movie is called Los Abrazos Rotos (Broken Embraces) and she sports a wig the whole time.

Once the award show ends, viewers tend to let it all go. We know what the ladies wore, we know who won what award and then we go back to our normal lives. Winning actors and actresses, on the other hand,  get to go home and soak it all in.

What do each of them do the minute their door closes and no one is watching?

Penelope Cruz opened up about her experience:

"When they gave it to me I could not stop crying for 20 minutes. I could not look at it - is it for real, or one of those things my friends gave me or something?

This morning I woke up with the same feeling. But I had put the Oscar in my bed, on the other pillow, I looked - and it was there!"

She slept with her Oscar - how cute is that?! So many times we hear actors say they don't even know where their statues ARE. It's refreshing to hear Penelope say she was really excited about the win.

I'm sorry... I want to write about the dresses. But all I can think about is what kind of bra Sarah Jessica Parker is wearing. Hellllooooooo there!

Penelope Cruz kissed her Oscar as she entered the press room looking amazing in white. When the actress took to the stage to accept this year's award for Best Supporting Actress, she said:

Has anyone ever fainted here? Because i think I might be the first one.
