GLAAD Issues Statement Against Bruno
'Bruno' continues to push people's buttons and cross very fine lines. Today, GLAAD came out with an official statement against the movie asking people to not support Sasha Baron Cohen's newest venture.
Here is an excerpt from the full release:
The movie repeatedly builds entire scenes around stock stereotypes and situations that make gay people and families the butt of crude jokes. I can’t help but think of all the teenage kids already getting bullied, beat up and ridiculed for being--or for being thought to be--gay.. For these kids, this movie will give their tormentors one more word in the anti-gay lexicon of slurs: Bruno.
Instead of challenging stereotypes, it reinforces them for many of the those who voted to take away the freedom to marry from loving, committed gay and lesbian couples in California. Many states have gone even further—Arkansans went to the polls and effectively eliminated the ability of gay people to adopt or foster children in that state. In a cruel twist, “Brüno,” some of which was actually shot in Arkansas, includes a scene where the title character shows a talk-show audience photos of sexual activity occurring in the presence of an infant child. Can this help the gay families across the country who continue to be reduced to political punching bags at the ballot box?

Oh My Word
Reviews are out and some people admitted they were a bit uncomfortable watching Sasha Baron Cohen's newest movie, 'Bruno'. Are you going to try to catch it in the theatres? Or is this a movie you'd rather watch alone at home?

Confessions of a Shopaholic star Isla Fisher assures people that she will marry longtime boyfriend Sasha Baron Cohen. After seven years of dating and a one-and-a-half year old daughter, Olive, Isla tells Allure magazine that she and Sasha are finally ready.
'We are going to get married, really, really, even more now than ever,'
she says. 'We have been talking about it and we have been very close,
but it has been difficult to plan.' "
I guess so, between having a baby, filming Confessions of a Shopaholic and all of Sasha's projects! Despite everything going on in their lives, Isla knows what she wants in her wedding and that she wants it to be private.
'It is very important to me to have a beautiful ritual celebrated with
all my family and friends, and to feel part of a community,' she adds. 'And when you are in the public eye, to keep that private and to make
it happen without it being really visible is really difficult.' "
In preparation for her marriage, Isla even converted from the Methodist church to Judaism, even taking the Hebrew name Ayala.
'I never saw it as a losing or gaining situation, just an embracing
situation,' she adds. 'I think if one wanted to be buried next to one's
beloved and they were Jewish, then one would have to be Jewish, too.' "('That came out really weird,' she then jokes. 'Scratch the burial.')"
Don't scratch it, Isla: we get what you mean! You want to be laid to rest with the love of your life; who wouldn't understand that?
