Happy Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 11th, 2008 at 8:22 am

  mothers-day.gif
Wanted to send out a Happy Mother’s Day to all mommies out there! And for everyone else, have a GREAT Sunday. Can’t believe another year has flown by and now I have two.  We have a lot of traveling to do today as we are visiting both sides of the family. When will I be old enough to host a holiday? Perhaps when I hit 60, I can actually have something in my house. A girl can dream… :)

10 Tips To Rule Your Kitchen For A Girl On-the-Go”

Thursday, May 8th, 2008 at 6:45 pm

I was invited to meet the editors of Women’s Health Magazine today for an informal lunch / presentation and BOY did I get a lot of information! Not only am I head over heels in love with their online site, but I just might subscribe to their magazine after leafing through the one they gave me. I know this should live entirely on FitCeleb, as that section is solely dedicated to health and fitness, but I wanted to be sure everyone had a chance to read the 10 quick tips provided by nutritionist, Keri Glassman.

“10 Tips to Rule Your Kitchen for a Girl On-the-Go”

1. SWAP THE MAYO (or the sour cream)

Use nonfat Greek yogurt, which can serve as a great low fat substitution. Nonfat Greek yogurt also has many health benefits such as being high in calcium, protein, and containing probiotics.

2. PUREE

Use your favorite fruits and vegetables. You can do this in large batches, and then use them to speed up AND taste up cooking any time. If you want to make very large batches at one time, pureed fruits and vegetables can be frozen for about 2-3 months. Freezing them in ice cube trays will allow you to defrost the perfect amount needed!

3. INCREASE VOLUME

Increase the volume of your meals without adding calories to help you feel full for longer. Sound tricky? Here are some easy ways to do this.

4. GO FOR CHICKEN STOCK

Use the low sodium version! Add to mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower instead of butter or cream, or steam veggies in chicken stock for added flavor instead of using butter or oil.

Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell Bike Riding In Brentwood

Monday, May 5th, 2008 at 2:07 pm

The lovely Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were photographed enjoying a beautiful day bike riding through Brentwood. I think it’s pretty apparent now why Kate Hudson is so beautiful. Just look at her mother and how, even at the age of 62 and with a bike helmet on and she still looks amazing. I loved pretty much every movie Goldie made and I’m sad to see her IMDb file with no current movies. Then again, she is finally enjoying her life without having to work or worry about staying current in the industry. That must be a really nice feeling.

My Friend’s Husband Won The Kentucky Derby!

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at 10:43 pm

kentsonya.jpg

She isn’t a close friend, but Sonia Desormeaux is from my town and in my Bunko group (don’t ask). Last week, we attended a get together and Sonia was talking about what she would wear to the Kentucky Derby very nonchalantly (cement pencil dress with an over-sized blue hat). A few days pass and a bunch of us head over to Belmont to enjoy a day at the races. Imagine the screams that came from our room when her husband WON the Kentucky Derby. Kent Desormeaux took quite the lead and everyone from town was rooting him along.

Congrats guys!! This will be some night to celebrate.

PS: A lot of people are telling me about the TMZ video that is posted about Sonia. The implants the reporter is referencing are on her son’s head. He is deaf and had surgery to help him hear. So they made a mistake in talking about what was said. I hope they fix it soon.

Issues With Comments

Thursday, May 1st, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Comments are getting deleted for some odd reason. Also I am getting a ton of emails saying Wordpress is giving an error when you try to leave a message on a post. Server is working on this as we speak.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

UPDATE from server ppl:

Vera,

I have located a large number of comments in the database that have a date in the future. This causes the comment not to be posted until after that date has passed. It is also (from what I have read) responsible for the error you and your users are seeing about posting too fast.

mysql> select * from wp_comments where comment_date like ‘2012%’;
1334 rows in set (0.18 sec)

That’s a lot of comments that probably didn’t make it to your site! It seems as though these comments with the incorrect timestamp are not just from the past few days but have been spread out over a fairly long period of time. I am currently trying to figure the best way to fix these timestamps. I also will let you know why this has happened as I research a bit more.

Update II: Should be fixed (it’s 4:30 PM). Let me know if you see a problem
