I want to thank the 663 people who answered my ten question survey about INO. I was going to run it for another day, but overall, I think I got what needs to be fixed. Here is a little summation of the most talked about requests:

Comments:

• After you leave a comment, you would like an easier way to get back to where you were in the first place.
• Bring back the threads in comments.
• Have a way to flag an inappropriate comment
• Moderation of comments — I cannot control this. I try my hardest to keep the site positive and fresh. I would need a few extra hours in the day to moderate all comments and I just can’t do that. If you ever find something truly offensive, please email me and I will remove it. I can only control what I write, not how people respond to it. So sorry.

Links

• Open up in a new page (internal and external)  including comment and thumbnails. I’m actually shocked about the internal ones - but I understand. So comment and thumbnails will soon open to new page. That way you can keep your spot on INO without having to back track.

Pictures

• Thumbnails are still acting a little fun for some people. I want to encourage those of you who have had issues in the past, to try it again. But I promise, everything will be fine once we switch to Drupal (another blogging tool).
• Keep the thumbnails
• Have a next and previous button so you can click through thumbnail gallery without having to go through each picture on your own

Stories

• Vast majority like the way it is. Mixed up with short and sweet and semi detailed.
• Vary up the celebrities -focus more on other people
• Have a Hot Topic section to easily click to best stuff as the first thing on the page.

Other

• Celebrity index
• Do a daily recap of the new sections so you can see if you want to go over there - one post a day
• Write out the name of the sites in daily link dumps so you know whether or not you should visit

There are more suggestions that I will take into account. But these were the ones that were repeated over and over again. Thank you to everyone who left input. I will take these to my designer to incorporate.

– You can now comment on someone’s comment. Each comment left has a “reply to this” link on the bottom. If you click on that, it will nest. So instead of saying “Number 32, I agree with you”, you can now just write it under what they’ve said

– In order to decrease the load time on my home page, I am putting the galleries after the cut. This means you have to click on the continue reading link to see the rest of the photos associated with the stories. To make it worth your while, I am not using thumbnails. All pictures are full sized. So if you click on the continue reading link for a post, you will see a handful of enlarged photos all in one place. You just have to scroll to see them all.  I want to see if this helps my site’s load speed. Testing it out for a week. If you like the new format, please let me know. If you don’t please let me know.
