This is not about respecting another countries culture at all. This situation is being dictated by a small and fundamentalist group of power seeking cultural and religious manipulators. Muslim fanatisism is not unlike the fanatical loony religious right of the US. To bow to their demands only empowers them more. These bigots do not represent Islam or Muslims, they only represent their own lust and quest for power and control over society. They are similar to the idiots in Indonesia who seek to ban traditional dances that predate the arrival of Islam in the region. These morons interpret the Koran in their own warped vision and have more respect for their own bigoted and twisted ideas than they do for the teachings of the Prophet Mohammad and are little more than cultural and religious vandals. These cultural and religious parasites should be shamed not some scantily clad western opportunist who wants to sell music CD's with overt sexuality. I see no link between Gwen Steffani wearing revealing outfits and assaults on women. That sort of thing was going on before GS was born and happens in countries where women wear the burkah as well as in places like the US were some of the women get about near naked. Women are not raped or assaulted because a performer wears sexy outfits and to suggest so is naive. Women are raped by men because the rapists are sick in the head or they are powerless sociopaths who seek control over others and see women as an easy mark. They rape because they think they can get away with it and in societies that repress women more often than not they do get away with it. Ironically it is the social order that the religious fanatics of all ilks promote that best facilitates the exploitation of women. I live in an open but highly commited muslim society with a wide and varied range of religious observance and practice. Any man who rapes or tries to rape a woman where I live is in deep trouble. Islam does not condone the repression of women either by rape or by more generalised and subtle forms of repression, indeed it does the opposite. This argument about sexy clothes and dancing has nothing much to do with religion and much more to do with common decency and respect for others. Most people I know would enjoy it but others may be offended. They have no need to attend the concerts. Nobody is forcing them to buy a ticket. Too many people believe the rubbish they are fed by the media and by vested interests. It is societies and individuals that repress women and they use any available religion or other vehicle to support their beliefs and goals. Islam has no special franchise on the exploitation of women. Clothes worn head to toe do not shield women from rape if a society does not punish and discourage rapists. Islam does not condone or support the repression or subjugation of women it is primitive and patriarchal societies that do this and they manipulate religious dogma to maintain their power base. Ignorance breeds ignorance. Your minds are being raped with rubbish and lies from all sides, best to just try and see through it and practice tolerance and understanding of others. When Americans learn to stop referring to women as dogs or "bitches" and killing muslim women in their homes with high explosive ordinance then maybe they might gain a little more credibility in the world, until then most of the dialogue sounds a lot like a bunch of hypocritical and uninformed bullshit being uttered by complete morons. BTY since when was throwing bottles into a crowd considered to be wonderful expression of creative freedom.
