Dell Unveils Nickelodeon PC For Kids
This week I was invited to attend a Dell press preview for their Holiday line. When I walked into the cocktail party, I was immediately attracted to their Nickelodeon corner set up to show off the brand's newest addition - The Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition.
Yes, kids will enjoy the green slime evident on the case and screensaver, but that's not what makes this product such a buy. It really is a perfect fit for parents of children between the ages of 6 and 13. Besides the 15 month McAfee virus protector and parental control built into the machine, this brand also boasts pre-packaged game suites and widgets that will provide hours of fun for your little ones and automatically update each quarter.
I had the chance to spend some time with Whyville's Chief Visionary Officer, Jim Bower, who gave me a walkthrough of his software which is included in Dell's pre-install. I instantly fell in love - not with Jim... with Whyville. :)
It's an online community for children that is heavily guarded and deemed safe by a variety of parenting groups. While your child navigates through this virtual world meeting friends, they will also be able to start up their own businesses, sell products they create online to other Whyville members and take part in educational activities. They are learning while they are playing! Priceless.
The new Dell is also wonderfully compact and lightweight. Your child will have no problem carrying around the 10 inch notebook which weights just 3 pounds!
The Dell Inspiron Mini Nickelodeon Edition will exclusively be available at Walmart and online at dell.com starting this October. Price will be released at launch.

August Is National Eye Exam Month

August is National Eye Exam Month – and with the new school year right around the corner, it’s a great time for the entire family to get their annual eye exams.
Did you know that:
- 80 percent of what all children learn comes through their sight
- One out of every four children has a vision problem
- Undetected vision problems can lead to learning difficulties
In honor of National Eye Exam Month, Sears Optical is highlighting some special promotions.
They are offering free lenses valued at $140 with the purchase of any frame for kids 18 and under.
For more information about Sears Optical, cost savings and Independent Doctors of Optometry, go to www.searsoptical.com.
Thomas the Tank Engine: Hero of The Rails

I'm Not Obsessed was invited to attend a bloggers' preview for 'Thomas the Tank Engine: Hero of The Rails'- PBS' new one hour special that airs on September 5th.
Mark your calendars because Thomas has gone CGI! The show also releases on DVD the very same day in case you miss it.
See Thomas & Friends™ like never before in this new action-packed movie. Follow Thomas as he discovers Hiro, an abandoned engine from a faraway land. Fearing that Hiro will be scrapped, Thomas enlists the help of many friends, but mishaps, mistakes and one boastful engine could foil their rescue plans. Watch and find out if they can work together to help their new friend in the most heroic movie of the year!
Guess what? For the first time ever our children will get to hear and see Thomas speak by himself. Don't worry. The male voice-over is still present guiding the kids through the storyline, but now the engines get to speak to one another and have their mouths animated like the rest of the cartoons our children are so used to watching.
The event took place in Manhattan. Out of respect for the other women at the function, I won't publish any pictures of their kids, but it was a full house.
The children played with trains, colored, snacked and got to know one another while the writers learned about what's coming up for the series.
Then the movie started. We got to see 20 minutes of the film. Obviously, Liam was very into it. As was I! The moms began to shout, "What happens with Spencer and Victor?" Unfortunately, the PR reps wouldn't spill the beans. :)
Overall, the film was engaging. My children sat still and munched on their goldfish taking in every scene. Who doesn't love Thomas?
Be sure to tune into PBS on September 5th with your children to check out Thomas in CGI motion!
