Ellen Degeneres And Portia De Rossi Getting Married!

Ellen Degeneres And Portia De Rossi Getting Married!

Congrats to the happy couple! Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are getting married now that the California supreme court gave same sex couples the right to marry.

The pair has been dating since 2004. Ellen made the announcement on her show and the crowd went WILD and gave them a standing ovation!

It's pretty gross that we live in a culture in which Mariah and Nick can date for SIX WEEKS and have some lameass ceremony anywhere they please, whereas Portia and Ellen have been in love for FOUR YEARS and JUST NOW got the right to have their own nuptuals.

I mean, I think it's great, but we've still got FAAAAAR to go. I honestly believe that my grandkids are going to be disgusted that George Bush and his psychoreligious zealots have had such a large hand in such blatant bigotry.

Equal Rights for ALL. 'Nuff Said.

Whats next, fathers marrying their daughters? Or how about 2 twelve year olds marrying? Why should that be wrong if THEY LOVE EACH OTHER?

No fathers & daughter marrying was way back in history....lol (the king henry era is a good time period to research)
Umnn back in the days they use to marry girls as soon as they hit puberty...if they menstruated they could carry a baby & then they would marry them off to some man who was old enough to be her grandpa.

I think you're missing the whole point....the world is moving FORWARD.
It may not be up to your moral standings but it's going to happen regardless of how you feel. Love is love...many heterosexual relationships don't last as long as some same sex couple relationship. These same sex couples that you are against..many adopt kids & give these children a happy home filled with love to grow up in. If they didn't give these kids a home the childs other option could have been growing up in an orphanage with below par education & thrown into a system that will not see the childs full potential. I can go on & on but I'll end it here.

Having two moms is not a healthy environment for a child. There's a reason the males and females work together the way they do and there's a reason two women can't have kids together.

Wow, your so stupid. I have been raised by a lesbian Mother and no father. And I thank goodness that I have. My retardes a** father in my life would have been horrid. My Mother and her partner raised me so much better than my Mother and Father could ever have. Your seriously so immature and naive. I bet you've never met a lesbian couple who raised a child. And the funny thing is, when I told everyone at work that same sex marriage was legal. My boss said "Oh damn, it's that f*cking mayor in SF!" And I said, "Excuse me, my Mother is a proud lesbian." He then admitted he never knowingly met a lesbian and never thought they could raise a child without a man. However, I am his favorite employee and he realized same sex couple could raise A FABULOUS child. Compare me to everyone else, my parents did excellent!!

So shut up and go back to you trailer you trashy a$$ retard.

Hanna. Your idiocy, lack of articulation, and inability to deliver a reasoned argument only further my stance that the people against equality are just too fucking stupid to even pay attention to. Are you going to start preaching about hellfire and brimstone or whatever, too? If Heaven is full of dutiful little Biblethumping 'tards like you, send me straight to Hell, thanks.

Excuse me? So I am an idiot just because I have a different opinion? If you are SO LIBERAL, then shouldn't you be libreal about others' viewpoints as well?

I have the right to think that allowing same gender marriage is wrong, just as you have the right to approve of it, if that may be your wish.

Besides, why do you automatically assume that I read the bible, or that I am religous at all? Or that I am going to vote for McCain? Now THAT is what is idiotic.

So please, no reason for insults. We are hear to discuss celebrities, not attack each other for different viewpoints.

Yes, I think gay marriage is disgusting and ruins our culture. But if people think otherwise, let them.

I don't understand what is so "disgusting" about gay marriage. What do you mean it's disgusting? Are you like 12 or somehing? Everyone deserves to have equal rights because everyone is different and no one can say what is necessarily right or wrong. You can't just SAY that it's wrong because you're opposed to it. It's just different than your stance on marriage.

- the comments to hannah were not about her opinion about whether or not she believes in gay marriage...they were in reference to her awful and immature comparison of a gay couple to an incestual couple or to two twelve year olds who wants to marry -- or as other comments have said, to pedophiles or rapists.

- those comments are not about an opinion. they are about hate, and you could be talking about me, you could be talking about someone's father, someone's mother, someone's sibling, or someone's friend as being "gross" and "disgusting" and on par with a father having sex with their daughter. thats where the problem started and thats where hate leads to. use your words and your arguments wisely.

- it seems to be there are many other places for all the hateful thoughts and energy to be directed to instead of to two adults in love.

My problem with gay marriage lies not in the gay but in the disrespect of marriage across the board. To marry is a religious act, it is meant for 2 people who are committed to being each other's everything spiritually and in life. It doesn't include divorce or other things not in line with religion. The same way you get baptized as a christian, you marry. Unless a person is committed to religion and the lifestyle of religion then marriage should not be an option. I don't care if you are heterosexual or gay, to marry is to go before God and choose to put someone before yourself. It means that you are religious and respectful of religion and a practicer of religion.

The people ruining marriage are the people who are neither of those but choose to continue aligning themselves to a Christian practice and belief while condemning the religion. Straight or gay, doesn't matter. Religion is the fundamental base for the practice of marriage and somewhere in society that was forgotten.

finnaryn finnaryn said:

So since was married by a judge instead of a minister, does that mean my marriage is less valid? Gasp! What will I tell the kids?

Immortal Immortal said:

If marriage was strictly a religious act, than we would have to forbid atheists to marry as well. They aren't looking for a church marriage, but a legal one, and all the legal rights and privileges that come with being a married couple. There are state officials (Justice of the peace) who preform legal marriage ceremonies - God is not a part of the marriage vows stated by these officials.

And to those who say that gay marriage makes a "mockery" of the institution of marriage (An argument I have heard so many times) , believe me, straight people are already doing a fine job of this...with the high divorce rates, infidelity, spousal abuse...I could go on.

Marriage is an idea. Ideas are interesting things. Some people have them, and some people live in them.

Freya Freya said:

Marriage is a civil contract. Christians did not invent marriage, nor does a gay marriage have any affect on your marriage if you are a Christian (or not). The STATE governs marriage, not the church. People have been getting married long before Christ. Marriage has, and continues to be, a way to unite two separate individuals into one unit. Usually as it pertains to property (at one time the woman and the children WERE the property but that's not so today, at least here in the US). Marriage is a way for the state, the tribe, the ruler of the group, whatever, to make choices. THAT is the fundamental reason for marriage.

What your marriage means to you is your business. But when we're discussing the law, we're discussing marriage as a civil right, not as a religious insitution. As such, the bible has no bearing on it. The state and federal constitution does. There's a little thing called EQUAL PROTECTION, it's a pretty fundamental cornerstone of democracy. I know many people find the constitution to be a nuisance but I and the founding fathers of this nation think it's pretty important.

Equal protection means all laws are applied the same to all citizens. So black children get the same schooling that white children do - Brown v Board of Education and one of the most important Equal Protection cases in our nation's history.

What you believe for yourself is your business and your right. What you try to shove down my throat based on your religion when your religion has NOTHING to do with state governed contracts IS my business and yes, I am intolerant of people trying to legitimize bigotry of any type. As in, I think your opinion is wrong headed, hateful and ill informed but I would not make it illegal for you to express it. The key is, if marriage to you means no divorce and no gay people, you do it that way. Why is it so important for you to be involved in what other people do? Why do folks with your mindset seem so obsessed with what gay people do anyway? It's unnatural.

Passerby Passerby said:

Ahhh why are you people so dump? Why do think it is okay? It's completely unnatural... You don't see to girl chimps having kids do you?

please research before you make comments. there are gay animals. Its been on tv multiple times and its "natural". Certain types of primates have gay and multiple mates.

I understand why people are upset about the word marriage. I agree people who get married or committed should be in it whole heartedly, but I think this is crazy that people shouldn't be allowed to commit legally. I think it is great to promote this because this is a huge step from the 80's. I truly feel that it stops promoting promiscuity and promotes being with one person.

People need to realize this isn't about Christianity and it doesn't destroy our religion. Jewish marriage and Islam do not ruin it so I don't see how a legal license and A WORD are going to disgrace the religion.

*I think we have all forgotten it is not our job to judge others and it is god's*
