Summertime with Kids

I would love to hear what everyone plans on doing while the kids are home for the Summer.

I'll start. We spend a lot of time at the pool, but I get so fried so quickly, that it's not much fun. We are going to do an alphabet summer too. A different activity for each letter (z=zoo, f=farm, m=museum). It gets us out and about, but with gas prices we might be walking everywhere! Phew!

I don't have small kids but my husband and I love to go to the mountains for long hikes in the summer. My subdivision has a pool and I have never gone and now that my sister and her family have moved in around the corner from me she wants us to go. I am not much one for laying out by the pool and frying myself in the sun. Maybe I will go with her once. I agree that the gas prices we will probably stick closer to home this summer. I just went to get gas and it went DOWN 5¢ a gallon. I was soooooooo happy! When my kids were younger we went to the water park a lot.

We actually are kid free for most of the summer! Our son (rising 4th grader) is visiting hubby's mom and stepdad for the month of June (he got out of school two days after Memorial day) and he's visiting my parents for the month of July. Good for us, because we're moving in 5 weeks! Hope everyone has a great summer! I'm impossible to forget, but I'm hard to remember

Nothing yet

We took our vacation already which is a bit upsetting now that the weather is nice.

Maybe we will steal a weekend and go to Hershey with them. No more planes for a while.

I have no kids, but I still consider myself a kid being only 20. So what do I do with my 4 month summer while not in univeristy? Well for one, I'm working a lot at an ice cream store. I will be flying down to North Carolina too for a while with my family to a beach house on the ocean as we do every year. It's lots of fun for anyone of all ages -- even if you have little kids! I will try to spend less time shopping this summer so I can save more $$ for school than I did last year. I also want to go to Italy at the end of August to visit my friend who will be there. On a daily basis, when the weather is nice, I like to chill on the beach. Our house is actually on Lake Huron so I can go anytime. I really like to work on my tan all summer! Oh also, I will be running and working out a bit too. And lastly, seeing my boyfriend as much as I can. AND having a few drinks now and then.

Which beach are you headed to in NC?? Maybe I'll see you there if it's near where my parents beach house is! Looks like I'll be going up there for a few days before and after our move.

I'm pretty sure it's Surf City. Last year it was Topsail Island, and before that it was Wilmington. We've done Surf City before and it was our fave! Which beach is your parents' place at? Isn't it beautiful in NC?!

My parents beach place is in Emerald Isle. I've been going there since I was a baby. I'm originally from NC, so yes, I think its beautiful there!

Unfortunately I'm a working mom so I'll be at the office most of the summer. But I hired a college student to watch my kids in our home and they love it! This way they can sleep in and they have all their own toys and games to play with. My sitter is awesome and will take them on one or two field trips a week. Just yesterday they went to the science museum in town. I do have a week vacation in July plus a few long weekends I've taken. We are planning to do day trips to zoos and museums and also going to the Great Wolf Lodge for three days. ~Sarah

Gas prices at $4.60 regular and $5 diesel are keeping us homebound this summer. Well, more like keeping us locally if we don't stay home. It'll be frustrating too since we usually are around 105-110 in the summer. I might drive the kids to the beach once (2hr drive) and visit my family an hour south of us a couple times. But for the most part, staying home and surviving the heat. They are prepared for a boring summer. lol Who knows, some friends are planning pool parties so that might be on the agenda this summer too. I do want to get on them with reading, I know, boring mom lol, so library visits every 3 weeks is part of the plan. And play some games together... boardgames and Wii games. At least there is some free fun we will be doing. Movies every week at the local movie theatre. Regal Cinemas does this free family film festival every summer on Tuesdays and Wedsnesdays. You should check it out if you have a local theatre doing the same. http://www.regmovies.com/nowshowing/freefamilyfilm.aspx
